Lessons From My Journey To Full-Time Furniture Flipping

Lessons From My Journey To Full-Time Furniture Flipping

I remember the days i would sit in my office job, dreaming of ways i could get out and create a life i truly loved, every single day.

When i first started flipping furniture 10 years ago i new hardly anything at all about the process, let alone how to run a business. What started as a creative hobby quickly turned into a thriving side hustle that gave me hope and inspiration, something to look forward to inbetween working jobs that never felt right for me.

Here are some lessons I've learnt along the way that may help you if you're feeling unfulfilled in your current job or need some inspiration in your life!

A LESSON ON PATIENCE

Running a successful furniture flipping business does not happen overnight. Like any business, it takes time to grow (especially if you have little ones).

I know the feeling of wanting everything to happen right away but if you focus on the journey itself of growing a business, rather than the 'destination' you will feel much more at ease. Trust that the universe is delivering everything you need in the perfect divine timing and try to enjoy yourself and have fun along the way!

Sometimes there are lessons to be learnt before your dreams begin to unfold.

Just because you aren't earning enough right now in your flipping biz to quit your job or go part-time, it doesn't mean it won't ever happen!

DO WHAT YOU LOVE AND THE REST WILL FOLLOW

Back when i first started i was nervous to paint with colours other than white, or try anything different thinking that nobody would buy my pieces. I got tired of trying to please everyone else and decided to create pieces that i loved and enjoyed doing. Since finding my niche and following my heart i have attracted clients that are drawn to the work i love to do and are more than happy to pay me well for the style of pieces i do.

YOUR INCOME WILL INCREASE AS YOUR SKILLS/CONFIDENCE IMPROVE

Be willing to start at the bottom and as your techniques, tool kit and confidence improve, you will be able to sell your pieces for more and increase your rate for commission work.

As you grow, you will begin to see that the opportunities for a furniture flipping business are endless! I now run workshops from my home studio, sell paints & handles, offer mentoring sessions and have been approached to do paid advertisement collaborations on social media.

THERE IS NO FAILURE, ONLY FEEDBACK

Mistakes are never failure, only feedback. With every so called mistake, there is a lesson to be learnt. Whether it's with a particular piece you are working on or in the bigger scheme of things in growing a business.

If you look at mistakes as a sign that you are trying rather than failing, you will be more likely to pick yourself up every time.

Anything is possible, the first step is believing that it is.
